Innovative Ideas and Hands-On Learning Take Centre Stage at Early Years & Primary Education Conference

24 April 2025

On Tuesday, the 8th of April, University Centre Peterborough welcomed educators from across the region for the Technology in Early Years & Primary Education Conference, a free one-day event dedicated to reimagining learning through technology.

The event featured two dynamic sessions led by leading voices in the sector. These offered practical tools and inspiring strategies for integrating digital and unplugged tech into the classroom.

The morning started with ‘Tech with Purpose’ led by Mr. P ICT (@ICT_MrP) – a well-known UK primary school teacher and education consultant. Drawing on over 14 years of classroom experience, Mr. P shared real-world tips for using technology to enhance learning, streamline workload, and keep pupils engaged.

In the afternoon, author and early years tech expert Fiona Joines hosted ‘Unplugged Tech’, a hands-on session exploring creative, screen-free ways to spark curiosity and build problem-solving skills in young learners. Attendees explored how everyday materials can be used to deliver rich, play-based learning experiences beyond the screen.

“We were thrilled to host two such passionate and knowledgeable speakers,” said Sam Mackey, event organiser.

“Both sessions provided fresh, practical perspectives that attendees can take straight back to their classrooms, and it was a brilliant opportunity for us all to network with other professionals and share some valuable CPD on a key topic.”

The event showcased University Centre Peterborough’s commitment to innovation in education and the value of its teaching programmes, which continue to produce passionate, forward-thinking educators.
