Before enrolling at University Centre Peterborough, Declan ran his own business as a health coach. In this role, he would educate clients in exercise, nutrition, life coaching and a range of other specialities; guiding people as they work on improving their mental and physical health.

Declan Jackson

Declan is currently completing his degree, BSc (Hons) Business Management, at University Centre Peterborough and is loving his course, “The best part about the course is the opportunity, skills and resources”. Declan explained, “It helps me further explore my interests, and the knowledge I have gained has allowed me to cultivate my passions and turn them into a meaningful future”.

He then went on to discuss his positive experience at University Centre Peterborough, “The staff genuinely care about you, and your future. There is a continuous effort that takes place to make sure you can fulfil your potential” he continued “This created a wonderfully inclusive community, involving both the staff and students, that makes you feel like you are part of something bigger”.

Declan praised the support from the university when helping with prospective future employment opportunities; “The employability hub is brilliant. Not only do they provide skills and expertise in the process of applying for graduate employment, but also offer tailored support on CV and cover letter writing” Declan continued, “Their connections with organisations and companies in the community are extensive, meaning that they can help you find the employment opportunities that you hope to apply to”.

Alongside completing his degree, Declan volunteers at RECOUP, a charity with industry-leading expertise in post-consumer plastic recycling. Helping within the charity, Declan’s time is spent working on projects that relate to the prevention, education and improved circularity of littered materials, with a focus on post-consumer plastic packaging.

Declan praised University Centre Peterborough, marking his time studying at the university as extremely positive, “This place changed my life, it is a small university, but one with a massive heart”. Once Declan has graduated, he plans on completing a masters and has recently accepted a place at the University of York to study an MSc in Corporate Sustainability and Environmental Management, from there aims to complete a PhD in New Zealand on the topics of Sustainable Business, Economics and Politics.
